La Paz isn’t just about urban adventure—it’s also a gateway to surreal natural landscapes. Just 20 minutes from the city, Valle de la Luna feels like stepping onto another planet, where centuries of wind and rain have carved sandstone into jagged spires and dramatic formations.
Named by Neil Armstrong after he remarked that the landscape resembled the surface of the moon, this unique site is one of the easiest and most memorable outings from La Paz.
We spent about an hour and a half exploring the trails—an ideal activity as we adjusted to the altitude.

• The full loop takes about 1.5 hours at a relaxed pace (including photo stops)
• Two walking routes: a longer ~45-minute trail and a shorter ~15-minute loop—both worth doing
• Well-maintained paths and stairs make it accessible, though not stroller-friendly
• Little shade—bring water, sunscreen, and hats

• Taxi: approx. 50–60 BOB (~$10 CAD)
