Zambia is a country where nature’s power and beauty are on full display, with the iconic Victoria Falls standing as one of the world’s most awe-inspiring natural wonders. Known locally as “Mosi-oa-Tunya” or “The Smoke That Thunders,” the falls are breathtaking as millions of litres of water cascade over the edge into the gorge below.
Beyond the falls, Zambia also offers incredible wildlife experiences in lesser known parks like South Luangwa, where herds of elephants playfully graze the grasslands and lions laze along the road.

Ease of Money Exchange: While bank machines are widely available in cities, they can be unreliable. Often, machines run out of cash, or credit cards are rejected. It is common to try several machines before finding one that works. Carry some cash with you, as many National Parks are cash only.
Paved roads in large cities such as Livingstone and on route to Victoria Falls; however, the road from the Katima Mulilo border crossing to Livingstone is exceptionally challenging. Chunks of road were missing, and in some areas, there didn’t appear to be any road at all. Large potholes, up to 6-10 feet in diameter and 3 feet deep, created dangerous obstacles. Many vehicles opted to drive on the shoulder, which consisted of soft sand. Be prepared for a slow, nail-biting experience.
Tap Water is not safe to drink.
Malaria pills are recommended.
Vaccinations: Routine vaccinations are recommended.
Travel vaccinations: Hepatitis A, Typhoid, and Rabies may be recommended. A Yellow Fever vaccination certificate is required before entry.
