Ao Nang, Krabi, is a great base for families looking to combine beach fun, adventure, and a bit of nature. Unlike the busier Phuket, Ao Nang has a relaxed vibe, soft sandy beaches, and stunning views of limestone cliffs rising from turquoise waters. Our days were a mix of swimming, paddling, exploring, and discovering hidden corners of the area—perfect for keeping kids engaged while letting adults soak in the scenery.
Follow along for a six-day family-friendly itinerary in Krabi.
Day 1: Exploring Ao Nang and the Beach
We kicked off our trip with a slow introduction to Ao Nang. Walking along the boardwalk, we browsed the souvenir and clothing shops, stopping at a local fruit market to sample watermelon and passionfruit. The afternoon was all about the beach: gentle surf, soft sand, and scattered shade from the trees. The boys splashed, dug, and built sandcastles, while we soaked in the iconic views of longtail boats and limestone islands in the distance—a perfect start to our Krabi adventure.
Day 2: A Trip to Railay Beach
A short longtail boat ride brought us to Railay Beach, a must-see in the area. White sand so fine it felt like icing sugar, warm, clear water, and shaded spots at the top of the beach made it a serene escape from the busier beaches. We swam, relaxed, and played cards, while the boys explored the shoreline and admired the towering cliffs. Railay’s quieter atmosphere allowed for a calm day of beach fun without feeling rushed.

Day 3: Kayaking tour in the Mangrove Forest (Ao Tha Lane)
After a couple of beach days, we swapped sand for shaded waterways and paddled through Ao Tha Lane’s mangrove forests. Winding between limestone cliffs and dense mangroves, the calm channels were perfect for the kids to spot wildlife while we enjoyed the peaceful scenery. The mix of adventure and nature made it a welcome change of pace from the beach, and the boys loved exploring every twist and turn of the forest.

Day 4: Snorkelling off Phi Phi Island
Day four was all about getting out on the water. From Ao Nang, we joined a full-day snorkelling trip to the surrounding islands, including the Phi Phi Islands—an unforgettable family adventure set against towering limestone cliffs and turquoise water. The calm bays made snorkelling approachable for kids, and the changing scenery kept everyone engaged. We swam over colourful reefs, spotted tropical fish, turtles, and reef sharks, and still had plenty of downtime on the boat to rest between stops. It was the kind of day that felt exciting without being exhausting—and a highlight of our time in Krabi.

Day 5: Emerald Pool and Khlong Thom Hot Spring
After several busy days exploring Krabi’s coastline, this day took us inland to the rainforest. We skipped the group tour and rented a car, which gave us the flexibility to explore the Emerald Pool and the Khlong Thom Hot Springs at our own pace. We wandered the jungle trails, explored all three pools, and swam in the Emerald Pool itself. Then continued on to the hot springs to finish the day soaking in warm mineral pools and waterfalls. Going on our own made the day feel relaxed, family-friendly, and far more enjoyable than trying to fit everything into a tight tour schedule.

Day 6: Last Day at Ao Nang Beach and Foot Massages
On our final day, we slowed the pace entirely. A tuk-tuk ride brought us to the beach for a final morning of swimming, swinging on a tree branch, and playing cards in the sand. The boys bounced between activities while Derek relaxed in the cool breeze. As the tide came in, we found a nearby massage shop and enjoyed a soothing foot massage—the perfect end to our Krabi stay, leaving us refreshed and ready for the next leg of our trip.
